SUMMARY:MDBA Field Trip -- Winter Waterfowl in Walnut Creek
DESCRIPTION:A short-and-easy bird walk with the Mt. Diablo Bird Alliance. Non-members are welcome\, with pre-registration.\nThis is a great outing for beginning birders! \nHeather Farms is a small pocket of wildlife habitat in suburban Walnut Creek. It provides a nice mix of riparian\, oak woodland\, and wetland habitat that attract many winter visitors such as the handsome Bufflehead pictured\, Northern Flickers and Ring-necked Decks. \nTrail Rating: Category 1 – Easy. Under a mile walking total\, mostly on paved paths.\nElevation change: None\nLeader: Elisa Fernandes-McDade\, elisa.fernandesmcdade@gmail.com\nMeet: The Natural Lake in Heather Farm (not the pond surrounded with concrete.) Meet at the lookout below the parking lot.\nGPS: 37.92123253937827\, -122.04360842199883 \nDirections: Turn into the park on North San Carlos Drive from Ygnacio Valley Road. This is east of John Muir Hospital\, the intersection has a Shell and a Chevron gas station. Drive to the stop sign past the community building and turn left into the parking lot. The wooden railing is straight ahead. \nThe field trip is limited to 12 participants.
