SUMMARY:MDAS Field Trip -- Mount Diablo State Park
DESCRIPTION:Mount Diablo State Park\nTuesday\, May 2\, 8 AM to 1 PM \nMDSP is a treasure trove for birders. Although every season in the park has its special qualities\, late spring on the mountain has its own beauty\, as wildflowers add color to the vistas. Usually hot! Bring lunch and drinks. Many migrant and nesting species are possible including Sage Sparrows\, California Thrashers\, woodpeckers\, raptors and warblers. \nTrail Rating: 1– Easy walking\, mostly driving on mountain roads.\nElevation change: minimal\nLeader: Steve Taylor\, 925-828-8810 \nDirections: From I-680 southbound\, exit at El Pintado\, turn right and right again; park along the open space on left. From I-680 northbound\, exit El Cerro\, turn left\, then right at second light onto La Gonda. Continue 1/2 mile north on La Gonda from El Cerro to the wide section where there’s free parking. \nMeet at 8AM on La Gonda\, as described above. If you miss us there we’ll be passing through the Southgate entrance into the park at about 8:45AM\, after birding Southgate Road.\nPark Entry fee is required. \nDue to extremely tight parking at several stops along the mountain roads this field trip is limited to 12 participants. DESCRIPTION:  \n\nJoint Mt. Diablo Audubon & Save Mount Diablo Birding Walk at Curry Canyon\n \nMount Diablo Audubon Society and Save Mount Diablo are partnering up for a hike on Save Mount Diablo’s gorgeous Curry Canyon Ranch. This portion of Curry Canyon Ranch showcases beautiful rangeland ecosystems and valley oak and riparian habitat. We will be looking for busy song birds\, grassland birds\, woodpeckers\, waterfowl\, and raptors. You might even see a golden eagle or two! This is a chance to get to know the east side of Mount Diablo\, a side that’s not normally open to the public.
