DESCRIPTION:We’ll drive along Del Puerto Canyon\, on the east side of the Diablo Range\, looking for Canyon Wren\, Costa’ s Hummingbird\, Greater Roadrunner\, and other special birds. It can get very warm! Bring lunch and plenty of liquids\, as this trip takes us further from conveniences that most of our outings. \nTrail Rating: 1 – This is mostly a car trip\, with several easy walks.\nLeader: Steve Buffi (925) 200-4555 \nCarpools should plan to leave at 7:30 AM from Sycamore Valley Road Park and Ride. OR\, meet on Del Puerto Canyon Road west of I-5 at 9 AM at the Patterson Exit (Diablo Grande Parkway and Sperry Road) off I-5 (56 miles from Sycamore Valley Road). Take I-580 east to I-5 south.\nWe’re usually home for dinner. \nThere is no capacity limit on this trip. Carpooling is strongly recommended. SUMMARY:MDBA Field Trip -- Sacramento/Colusa National Wildlife Refuges
DESCRIPTION:Sacramento and Colusa National Wildlife Refuges are premier locations to see massive flocks of Snow and White-fronted Geese and tons of other waterfowl\, raptors and other birds. They are must-see annual winter destinations. We will drive the auto tour routes and stop at the viewing platforms at both of these refuges\, and visit a couple of other nearby locations. \nHike Rating: Category 1-Easy\nDistance: Little walking but plenty of driving\, up to 300 miles.\nElevation change: N/A\nLeader: Steve Buffi 925-200-4555 and Ted Robertson 925-899-1872\nMeet: North Dunnigan rest area on I-5 at 8:15 AM\nGPS: 38.892453020152\, -121.9774519444179 \nDirections: Go north on I-680\, cross the Benica Bridge (toll)\, merge onto I-80 East at Cordelia. At Vacaville\, merge onto I-505 North\, follow for 34 miles and merge onto I-5 North just south of Dunnigan. Continue past the town to the rest stop. \nThis is an all-day trip and we will not be home until after dark. Participants who desire to stay overnight may find lodging in Williams. Bring Lunch and Liquids.
