MDBA Field Trip — Staten Island Road

December is prime time for seeing lots of Sandhill Cranes along Staten Island Road in the Sacramento River Delta. Snow and White-fronted Geese and lots of other waterfowl are also assured. This trip is timed to spend a couple of hours viewing the grazing birds before a hoped for sunset flight of the whole flock from their roosting ponds. This is a must-see annual winter field trip. We will slowly drive the length of Staten Island Road, and stop at the best road-side location to set up our scopes.
Hike rating: 1 – Easy. Little Walking.
Leaders: Randy Huey 925-518-8439
Meeting Point: Important! Eventbrite shows this trip located at Heather Farm but we will NOT be meeting there! That’s just MDBA home base.
We will assemble our car caravan at 2PM at the silo barn parking lot on the right side of N. Staten Island Road (a quarter mile after turning off of Walnut Grove – Thornton Road onto N. Staten Island Road).
