Hayward Shoreline, Winton Ave. Entrance

For a shorebird spectacle, we will visit this site late in the day with the sun to our backs and birds congregating to avoid the high tide. Many of the returning shorebirds still have much of their breeding plumage. Some of these birds will stay the winter, some will continue a southerly migration. Leave the Sycamore Valley carpool location at 3 PM, then meet at the Winton Avenue entrance for Hayward Regional shoreline. From I-880, exit Winton Avenue, drive west 4.5 miles. Park near the trail head just before the parking lot gate. We will walk at least a mile to our viewing site. Bring a snack. Category 2.
